Listening Circles

What are Listening Circles?

A Listening Circle is a closed, safe, compassionate space for you to share whatever you choose to bring to the Circle, to be heard and supported, to offer support to others and to form valuable connections with other members.  A PMH Listening Circle is led by fully trained Listening Circle Facilitator – a parent from the PMH community who has lived experience of parenting a child with poor mental health and who has been specially selected, vetted and undergone a bespoke training programme – who will hold the space and support the circle with patience, compassion, and confidentiality. We know that connecting with others who understand the challenges we face can give us a valuable outlet that recharges our energy, gives us new and different perspectives, and helps us to feel less alone.

The Listening Circle Facilitator who leads the session gives each of the 6 parents in the Circle the opportunity to speak, reflect and be heard. In the act of listening to others, we hope to bring understanding, compassion and connection to those in the Circle.

Listening Circle places are limited and are being fully funded by the Parenting Mental Health Charity, so are free of charge, and exclusive, to our Parenting Mental Health Facebook group members. Once you have selected your preferred session, and completed the application form, we will review your application and get in touch. Please note, that you will need to commit to attending all the sessions in the 6 week period.

With sessions planned at a range of times, we encourage PMHers across the world to apply. We hope there will be a session time that suits you. Please see here for more detailed information on our Listening Circles.

You will need…

  • To be able to commit to 2 hours for yourself, every week for 6 weeks
  • Access to Zoom and headphones
  • A quiet place where you can talk freely
  • A commitment to confidentiality and to keeping the safe space sacred
  • To complete our short assessment to check if this is suitable for you
  • To sign an agreement, if you’re accepted onto the program
  • To complete our short surveys after each session

Please note, if you have a diagnosis of PTSD or C-PTSD, Listening Circles are not appropriate for you and we’re sorry that we will not be able to offer you a place.
